Jokulsarlon I
Iceland
Jokulsarlon, which means 'glacier lagoon' was my favorite place in all of Iceland. We arrived at about 10:30 PM and not a soul was in sight. As we walked along the shore you would hear a loud 'crack'! and turn around to see an iceberg break apart in the water. We set up camp on a glacial berm separating the lagoon from the ocean. All through the night the waves were crashing on the beach in one direction and loud pops signaled icebergs calving off the glacier in the other direction. A truly magical place. This image was taken about 11:00 PM on the summer solstice as the sun was nearing the horizon and the blue ice of the icebergs contrasted with the warm light of sunset.
