The Interior
Iceland
In the middle of the island is a vast volcanic desert called The Interior. When the Vikings settled the island this was the area that convicted criminals were sent to for a period of time. Uninhabited and almost devoid of life, this area was outside of the law, and where the term 'outlaw' originated. For most, being 'outlawed' was a death sentence. Photo © copyright by Scott Fricke.
